This policy explains what personal data Blue Gecko (bluegecko.es) collects, why, and the choices you have. We keep it short and only collect what the site needs.
Who we are
Blue Gecko runs bluegecko.es, a guide to excursions, food and drink, rentals and experiences in Tenerife. For anything about your data, write to hello@bluegecko.es.
What we collect
You can browse Blue Gecko without an account. We only collect personal data when you create an account or use account features:
- Account: your name, email address, password (stored only as a secure hash, never in plain text) and preferred language.
- Sign in with Google (if you use it): the name, email address and profile picture Google shares with us.
- Saved places: the listings you tap the heart on.
- Enquiries: when you are signed in and tap WhatsApp or Email on a listing, we note which listing, which channel and when. Your actual message is sent by your own WhatsApp or email app; we don't see it.
- Security: when you sign in we keep your IP address and browser type with your session, and we use IP addresses to limit repeated failed sign-ins.
- Analytics (only if you accept): anonymous page views and enquiry clicks. See Cookies below.
Why we use it
We use your data to run your account and its features (to provide the service you asked for), to keep the site secure (our legitimate interest), and, only with your consent, to understand which pages are useful. We don't sell your data and we don't show ads.
Data outside the EU
Some of these providers may process data outside the European Economic Area. When they do, they use the safeguards EU law requires, such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
How long we keep it
We keep your account data, saved places and enquiry history while your account exists. Sign-in sessions expire on their own. If you ask us to delete your account, we delete this data, except anything we must keep by law.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct, delete or download your data, to restrict or object to how we use it, and you can withdraw your consent at any time. Write to hello@bluegecko.es and we will reply within one month. You can change your name and language yourself on your account page.
If you think we have not handled your data properly, you can complain to the Spanish data protection authority (Agencia Española de Protección de Datos, www.aepd.es).
Children
Blue Gecko accounts are for people aged 14 and over.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page. If the change is important we will tell signed-in members.
